February 8th, 2021 | Money well spent

What is money well spent, and what isn’t? And what is the point of money, anyway?

I started thinking about this yesterday. I took an Uber to get to the train station of Milan, so I don't have to drag my huge bag in trams and buses. It cost me 20 euros.

I started wondering.

"Am I wasting money here? Remember, this is your runway. You don't have a job anymore."

Started thinking even more.

I'm paying every month for a personal trainer. Am I crazy?

At the same time, I'm moving to the south of Italy next month, to cut my expenses in half. Is that the right thing to do?

I honestly don't know. I feel like I'm doing the right thing. Treating money with respect, but also understand that it's a tool that can enhance my life.

Knowing how to treat money is difficult. For now, I came up with a simple heuristic.

- Spending money on yourself, is acceptable.
- Spending money on things, is not.

Of course, with a little bit of judgment and nuance.

But maybe I'm wrong. Why don't they teach us these things in school?!
