April 6th, 2021 | Appreciation

Yesterday I went to pick up my girlfriend from the airport.

The airport here in Palermo is one hour away from the city, by train. As I was waiting at the station, bored, looking at the walls, I remembered that on this day last year I was working.

And that if I were still working for a company, I would need to have arranged these few hours. Take permission from my boss. Ask politely if I can be offline for a few hours and be grateful if it doesn't count as a day off.

It's amazing how much my quality of life has improved. And I can't even imagine going back.

But what's sad is that it took effort to think of this. I'm almost accustomed. It's almost as if I don't appreciate it anymore.

But, at the end of the day, talk is cheap. You don't show your appreciation by talking about it. Or writing about it. There is only one way to show it.

And that's by working hard and doing whatever you can in order to protect the thing you feel grateful for.
