September 2nd, 2019 | Hiking
I have a good excuse as to why I wasn't active lately. I went with my family on a hiking trip to mount Olympus, the home of the Greek gods, at around 3000m / 9600ft altitude. We drove and parked at 1000m / 3300ft. With our heavy bags, my father (65 yo), my sister (27 yo), myself (25 yo) and my brother (17yo) starting ascending the mountain. We made several stops and detours so it took us about 5 hours to reach the shelter house, which is at around 2000m / 6600ft. We stayed the night there. It was a nice place with many people from all over the world. Even some crazy mfs that cycled to Greece from Berlin! It had good food and bunk beds, but no water to have a shower. I had even brought a small telescope with me to see some planets and the andromeda galaxy if I had the chance, but we were so tired we fell asleep at 9PM haha. The next morning we headed for the top, we left our bags at the shelter so it was somewhat easier than the first day, plus the excitement of reaching the top keeps you going. It took us about 3 hours. Itβs crazy how everything changed as we kept going up Up until 1000m, the mountain was green and dense, looking like your regular mountain At 2000m, the flora and fauna was different and a lot less dense At 2500m and above, the mountain was hostile, with itβ s altitude giving us headaches and with hardly any plants and animals what so ever The only animals you can find are some wild goats. Not to make it cheesy, but eventually we reached the top and it was a great feeling. Some doggos had walked up with their owners as well π After this tiring 3 hours steep hike, we had to walk down another three hours to the shelter, get our stuff, and then walk another three hours to the car. Total of 9 hours. The next day we all had trouble getting down the stairs.
