November 8, 2020 | Pretend work

Sometimes it's hard to find pretend work. It's sneaky. It tries to reason with you. Justify why you are doing it.

Right now, SEO for me is my pretend work. I've been pretty much posting a new blog post for Cyberleads every single day.

Automatically, that means slacking off on writing these blog posts. Slacking off a bit with my current driver of growth, Twitter. Slacking off with trying out new sources of traffic.

My assumption is that if it works for all my competitors, it should work for me too. And counting on social media impressions to grow your business is very volatile and risky.

It can be volatile in a positive way too, but you need a solid foundation of growth if things go bad.

Right now I'm torn. I really want to invest in SEO, because I think it's the way to build the ultimate lifestyle business. But I'm a bit tucked in and hiding from the world.

Which I hate.

If someone put a gun to my head and told me to get a new customer by the end of the week, I wouldn't be doing SEO.

I would be trying to convert my inbound leads to paying customers.

Maybe I should do that instead.
